here you get some news from Dayka.
As you can see on the photo, her ears are not symmetrical when she is not totally concentrated: the right ear hangs down.
Unfortunately, Dakyas character is not so friendly and stable as we desired. At the beginning she had a lot of problems with other dogs. The first ten times we went to the dogs training class she did not play at all with the other dogs. She sit down between my legs, whining when other dogs came near. With a lot of training it got better very slowly. Now she needs some 5 minutes to feel comfortable with the other dogs and then she starts playing. When we do our walk, she is also very shy with some other dogs.
But worse is that she became also very insecure with people. It started with children living in our road. She got frightened when a 8 year old girl moved rapidly and started barking and snarling, so that the girl got very scared. Now she behaves only normal with our "little" family: my husband, our 3 year old boy and my 12 year old stepdaughter. My 17 year old stepdaughter doens't live with us, but visits us several times a week. Dayka does not want that my stepdaughter pets her. It's worse with the grandparents: When my father moves too quick, Dayka starts barking and snarling. Far the worst it is with guests in our house. Once Dayka did not only bark, but also snapped at a friend of mine. That's the most alarming: When she is frightened, she doesn't get out of the situation, but gets aggressive towards the person she is scared about.
It's the third dog I educate and we never had such kind of problems. We already had a picard and he was always very friendly with other dogs and people. I am really scared how she will continue to develop. Since we have children, we also have a lot of "little" guests. If Dayka doens't get calmer and more secure, we really will have a problem. We love our Dayka like she is, but she is not the dog we dreamed of.
Best wishes for all in the new year 2009,
Katja
